Juan Carlos Castellanos.
Juan Carlos was born in Cuba in the early 60's. As a young boy living in Havana, he spent countless hours drawing the human figure as well as complicated structures such as sailing ships. At the age of eleven, he arrived in Miami via Mexico after taking one the the last “freedom flights” to the United States. While attending South Miami High School, Juan Carlos built a portfolio which won him a full visual arts scholarship to Parsons School of Design in Manhattan, NY. A few years later, he received a regional National Endowment of the Arts and exhibited at the Fort Lauderdale Art Museum. Juan Carlos' work has been exhibited nationally and is included in several corporate, public and private collections including Macy's, Westin Hotels, Puget Sound Energy, Valley Medical Center, the City of Seattle and the Hedreen family collection. Juan Carlos has lived in Seattle since 1991 where he continues to maintain his downtown studio.
Laura Castellanos.
Cuban-American artist Laura Castellanos was born in Manhattan in the early 60’s, grew up in New York and moved to Miami in 1979. In 1984, she received a “Marty Colker” visual art’s scholarship while attending Miami’s Florida International University. Her work is part of several public collections including the Tacoma Art Museum and the City of Seattle. Laura is Pollock-Krasner grant recipient, a “Neddy” nominee as well as being the creator of the 1993 annual Bumbershoot poster. Laura has exhibited in several public venues including Center on Contemporary Arts (CoCA), SAM gallery, Anne Focke Gallery, Kirkland Art Center, Moses Lake Museum and Gallery 4Culture. Laura has been featured several times on the Seattle Channel's Emmy award winning “Art Zone” with Nancy Guppy and in several publications including a City Arts Magazine as well as the Dutch magazine “Textiel Plus”. Laura's recent public art projects include, the City of Seattle's “Civic Square Fence” and Shunpike Storefronts. Laura continues to live and work in downtown Seattle and is represented by ArtXchange Gallery.
