Sialk Goat
By Monir & Mehdi Ghanbeigi
Ceramic (MMG012)
x 18cm H
The form is inspired by animal figures painted on potteries found in Tepe Sialk (an ancient archeological site near city of Kashan in Iran) and in Tepe Hesar (an ancient archaeological site near city of Damghan in Iran) dated about 5,000 B.C. In order to find underground water, pre-historic Iranians used goats. They kept the goat thirsty for a couple days, then freed the goat and chased it. Thirsty goat dig the ground where underground water could be found, showing the human where to dig a well.
