Donatella was born in Paris in 1975 where she grew up surrounded by art and architecture. She practiced photography since she was a teenager, but studied law at la Sorbonne and specialized in television management. She then worked in TV production for ten years, in Paris and in Montreal where she met her husband. After becoming a mother in 2006, it became obvious to Donatella that her children would become a priority. The family moved to London where their second child was born. If motherhood was indeed the most important and fulfilling part of her life, Donatella felt the need to create something on her own and to go back to a world of images and story-telling. She participated in a workshop at the St Martin’s school and took her camera and her newborn daughter around her fast gentrifying neighborhood of Islington for a series of portraits, capturing the faces of the people who were forced out of their houses and shops by the fast rising cost of real estate. After a few years in London, the family took the opportunity to travel across the Pacific for a few months before settling in the Seattle area. During the trip, Donatella realize that her photography needed to include her children. Rather than trying to separate these two parts of her life, she would try to catch her children youth on paper, relaying the pride and worries of a mother as well as the desires and fears of her growing children. Her latest work includes fiber art, with abstract quilts and woven pieces inspired by her photography, adding a third dimension to her work. She also created series of children portraits for the French American School.
