Each year SZ Build performs a hand full of home remodels. These jobs are loads of fun, and the highlight is working with the owners to help them envision their new living space. Throughout the process, it’s not uncommon for clients to bring materials and design elements to the table (and in fact, we encourage it). But what is uncommon is when a client introduces us to a new material I haven’t worked with, especially when that material is as iconic as Heath Ceramics.
Heath is a legendary brand in California, specifically the Bay Area. They’ve been around since 1948 creating timeless pieces of dinnerware, serving dishes, furniture, and jewelry. The brand epitomizes the mid-century design and feel of the era in which it began: simple, thoughtful, honest, and uncompromising integrity.
The star of this latest SZ Build project is Heath’s luscious tile. Below is an enjoyable time-lapse video of our new team member, Christo Doko (read more about him), installing tile from Heath’s Classic Field collection in colors crystal and heron blue as a Kitchen backsplash for one of our remodels in Seattle, WA.
We’re so thankful for our clients introducing us to Heath. At the end of the day, as I peruse Heath’s website, it is no wonder why everyone falls in love with these ceramics. Just read their Vision and Values statement: Design and make. Show and tell. Be resourceful. Honest. Responsible. Go direct. Use your hands. Mix old and new. Start small. Be human. Grow slowly. Provide jobs. Feed the environment. The community. Preserve craft. Honor the hand. Celebrate process and materials. Allow them to drive the making of simple, beautiful objects.
A brand after my own heart ❤
